I've just found your channel, buddy from the UK. I love the old Nordiques gear, and one day I would love to see them back in the NHL. It's got to be on the cards in all honesty, as you can't ignore them forever due to their amazing history of top players and also the location in Canada. As much as I would like Quebec City to bring back the Nordiques, I disagree with your strong opinion. This is NOT about Gary Bettman… at all. And he has done more for the league to make it better than before he ever become the only commissioner in league history.
There will not be another team there while Canada and especially the province of Quebec has a terrible economy, the Canadian dollar being around the same value as the mid-1990s, an unfavorable political climate, Canada as a country on the verge of collapse AND there is no deep enough pocketed owner to maintain an NHL team in such a small sized market. I do not care if they have the most passionate fans and sellout crowds. There is a lot more to hosting an NHL franchise. Winnipeg’s viability is fragile in a small market of their own where a drop in season tickets could threaten their survival (again).
Bettman knows what he is doing. And yes, Atlanta, Houston and PHOENIX all will get teams before Quebec City could. This isn’t some anti-Canadian conspiracy by him or the league.
As for the jerseys that were never worn and any concepts… the “never worn” jersey set was very nice EXCEPT I hated the awkward wordmark. Remove it and you got yourself a nice crest logo. Great color combination. Keeping the name and number font. Just bring back what was last worn in 1995 and they are good to go.
If the Nordiques ever do come back, great. If not, it is only because the market cannot make it work from a financial standpoint.
